A proxy in a brew is a note that reads "I don't own this yet." The previous fix retired that note only when the card you bought matched the placeholder exactly — same printing, same finish — which is not how buying cards works. You find a copy, and it is the copy that was there. So the note stayed pinned next to the real card it was standing in for, the deck quietly held two of a card it is only allowed one of, and the shopping list kept recommending a purchase already made. The rule now matches the intent it always had: the note is about the card, not the particular version of it, and any copy retires it. Which printing you own still matters everywhere it should — the deck holds the one you actually bought, and a foil stays a foil.
